Beijing 2008 Venues Now Tactile: China
People with a visual impairment in Beijing now have tactile access to two
competition venues for the Beijing 2008 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
Metal scale models of the National Stadium ("Bird's Nest") and the
National Aquatics Center ("Water Cube") have been produced bythe Beijing
2008 Organizing Committee (BOCOG) and the China Disabled Persons
Federation (CDPF) in a joint effort with Olympic and Paralympic sponsors
to meet the demands of visually impaired people.
The models will be placed in the dining hall of the Athletes' Village in
Beijing and other places frequented by people with a visual impairment
between 23 August and 19 September. They will be kept permanently at the
Beijing Sports and Vocational Training Center for people with a
disability.
