New policy for importing cars for disabled persons in Pakistan | Print |

Islamabad, Aug 18:  Keeping in view the difficulties faced by disabled persons, the Federal Minister for Commerce Makhdoom Amin Fahim has changed the system for the grant of permission for import of duty free cars.
Now instead of the Federal Board for Disabled Persons, constituted in the Ministry of Commerce, the disabled persons will avail the facility by appearing before boards at the provincial level. The government has allowed import of custom-duty free new car. All the applications, submitted in the Ministry of Commerce, would be transmitted to the respective provinces where Boards, to be constituted in the provincial headquarter of the provincial government, would examine the cases on merit.

These boards would communicate their recommendations to the Ministry of Commerce for issuing import authorization certificate. Only one car, of engine capacity not exceeding 1350cc by a Pakistani disabled national for personal use, shall be allowed to be imported, and the car
shall not be sold or otherwise transferred to any person before the expiry of five years from the date of its arrival in Pakistan.
