July 01: A disabled youth earning a living by selling lottery tickets travelling in a wheelchair has been killed and his tickets and cash robbed by some unidentified persons opposite a private institution near the Mt. Lavinia Police station on Monday night.
Police said the assailants had killed the youth by hitting him with a big stone while he was taking cover from rain under the institution roof after fetching his dinner packet. The enterprising youth identified as Mahesh Perera of Sri Jana Mawatha has been supporting his parents through the income earned from lottery sales according to his sister Shamalee Perera. Police also found the stone used for the murder and the dinner packet lying near the body. Some of the robbed lottery tickets were found scattered near a garbage heap close to the scene. Mt.
