MUSCAT: Dec 30, 2012: The Ministry of Social Development organised a workshop on assistive technology for disabled children here recently.
Twenty staff members of from Al Wafa Centers and the disabled associations were involved in training for trainers’ programme.
The training in the form of workshops and lectures was conducted by Pantellimon from Cyprus, closely associated with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), and an expert on Assistive Technology and Yannis, an expert on Neuro-Development science.
This training workshop follows closely on the heels of a symposium in the Sultan Qaboos University (SQU) on Assistive Technology held in mid-December together with a few training workshops, one for faculty members and another one for the medical staff, therapists and psychiatrists. In addition to that, the Al Amal Association for Intellectual Disabilities has taken initiatives to conduct two training workshops for parents of disabled children.
Aisha Baabood and Widad Al Hashmi, both from the Language Centre at SQU, have played a major role in launching this programme.
They thanked SQU for organising such an event, which is happening for the first time in Oman. They also thanked the Ministry of Social Development, the Ministry of Education and Al Amal Association for Intellectual Disabilities for their support and cooperation with a special word of thanks for the sponsors of the workshops and trainings, the Al Habib Group and Omran Group.
