MUMBAI, INDIA, Oct 29, 2012: A portal, dedicated to place disabled persons in various streams, will assist them in getting jobs by simply posting their resumes online.
Speaking about the portal Jobability, Aruna Rangachar, national director of Cheshire Disability Trust said, “Our aim is to use technology and reach out to the underserved communities, break down the barriers that can hinder access to employment and the further professional growth rate of persons with disabilities.
This is a good start to creating an inclusive society, which is our ultimate aim, through placing disabled people in mainstream jobs.” The portal can be accessed at www.jobability.org . As per the plans, the website will cater to people with visual, hearing, speech, loco motor and mild-intellectual disability. It will also provide information related to the livelihood opportunities.
As of now, the website has over a 100 resumes of people with various forms of disability and till date around eight employing firms have registered themselves to cater to their needs. The job opportunities differ on the basis of business strategy, management, consulting, engineering, fashion designing, advertising, finance, banking, etc.
Already companies from the information technology sector have been given a walk-through of the portal and have been counselled to register themselves as employers of the disabled persons.
When it comes to openings in the firms, Mr Rangachar added, “We need to create visibility for this portal for more and more people with disability to join and find a careers through our website. We also encourage progressive employers to register themselves and start using Jobability to recruit untapped talent.”
