Japan grants aid to construct of training center for people with disabilities in Philippines | Print |

MANILA, Feb 3: The Japanese government has extended a grant worth $91,127 (approximately P3.9 million) to the Tahanang Walang Hagdanan for the construction of a training center for People with Disabilities.

In extending the grant, the Japanese Embassy in Manila noted that the Philippine government has not channeled sufficient funds to the marginalized sectors of the society, including  people with disabilities, so that their opportunities for education and employment face limitation.

The facilities that provide special education or skills training are also scarce throughout the Philippines," said the embassy in a statement.

With the grant assistance, the embassy said Tahanang Walang Hagdanan will construct a new training center with a capacity of 500 people, and also purchase necessary equipment including projectors and screens.

The new facility will be able to accommodate around 3,800 people for various trainings each year.

Tahanang Walang Hagdanan will also use the facility for tours designed to disseminate the conditions of PWDs and various activities of the organization to students and local business people.
