KARACHI, Jan 31: TradeKey in collaboration with its Corporate Responsibility Sector organised a workshop here on Saturday for disabled people to encourage them for taking active part in the society.

The speakers at the workshop said that an estimated 10% population with different kind of disabilities exists in Pakistan and it’s imperative to recognise their rights of employment, education and healthcare.

The speakers said that people with disabilities should realise their rights and be encouraged to become active members of the society. “We must realise that these special people need our special attention and the objective of this seminar is to develop future leaders in privileged people. We will be successful if we could convert even a single disabled resource into an active member of society”, they said.

Addressing the audience, TradeKey CEO Junaid Mansoor said realising its responsibility, the TradeKey had initiated a project for enabling people with disabilities to stand on their feet. “TradeKey feels its responsibility and wants to play its part in building the community”, he added.

Senator Abdul Haseeb Khan, CEO Brookes Pharmaceuticals & Board Member of Indus Hospital, said that the biggest problem in Pakistan was that there was no concept of social accountability which deals with the problems of disabled people. He said we must work for providing the disabled with easy locomotion, thus enabling them to participate in activities.

Senator Khan said that it’s our social and religious responsibility to help the disabled people move forward in the society.

Feather Engineering CEO Abdullah Mansoor said that the project of Feather Wheel Chairs was started three years ago and the objective of the workshop was to develop leadership abilities among the disabled people.
