Jan 13: Young Polish inventors have designed an innovative vehicle for disabled people.
What sets the Cool Car apart from other similar vehicles is that the driver does not need to get out of the wheelchair to sit behind the wheel.
The masterminds behind the project are Marlena Krzy?anowska, graduate of the Warsaw University of Technology and student of the Fine Arts Academy, along with Krzysztof Buczek, from the Systems Research Institute at the Polish Academy of Sciences.
The young scientists plan to create a prototype of the car next year, says Marlena Krzy?anowska:
"We are aware that the project requires vast funding and so we will be looking for investors in the next stage of the project," she told Polskie Radio. "For now, we want to focus on the details. The prototype is expected to cost around 20,000. We hope that the University of Technology will support us, by giving access to laboratories and construction materials."
The car would move at a maximum speed of 50 km/h and could be used for short–distance travel. Several thousand cars adapted to the needs of the wheel–chair bound are sold in Poland each year, according to the statistics of the Friends of Integration Association.
