AHMEDABAD, INDIA, Oct 9: A group of around 500 members of blind people's group called Akhil Gujarat Netrahin Jagruti Sangh burnt copies of a Government Regulation (GR) on Thursday evening in front of the Town Hall in the city.

The group of blind people was protesting against the GR which sidelines differently-abled people in the recruitment for the post of Vidhya Sahayaks (assistant teachers).

The protest saw the presence and support of noted danseuse Mallika Sarabhai and the Mahanta of Geetamandir Swami Magalanand. Speaking on the occasion, Sarabhai said, "There are even PhD degree holders amongst blind people. Why should not they be given jobs?"
