Incheon: South Korea, Sept 30: The Hyegwang Symphony Orchestra comprised of over 100 students and teachers from Incheon Hyegwang School for Blind People held its inaugural concert on Wednesday in the city of Incheon.
The concert, titled "Journey with Angels of Hope," marked the begining of Hyegwang students' venture of sharing their story with the rest of the world. For this debut concert, the students had put in hours of intense practice.
[Interview : Choi Eun-young, Trumpet player Incheon Hyegwang Symphony Orchestra] "I hope this concert changes people's perspective that blind people needs constant care and are people who cannot help others. I want to show them that we can do everything that they do."
Maestro Lee Kyung-gu, who had taken on this journey with the young musicians, talked about the meaning of this event.
[Interview : Lee Kyung-gu, Conductor Incheon Hyegwang Symphony Orchestra] "Coming this far was difficult, as the orchestra members had to learn everything by ear. But we've made it. I hope this inaugural concert gives strength to others struggling with life, showing them how we have overcome a great challenge."
The musicians showcased Elgar's Pomp and Circumstance March, Offenbach's Orpheus in the Underworld Overture as well as a traditional Korean melody, Arirang.
Audience members, as well as friends and families of the musicians, were moved by the sincere melodies.
