Health minister pledges facilities for disabled in Kuwait | Print |
KUWAIT: Health minister Dr. Helal Al–Sayer pledged on Tuesday to provide all the facilities necessary for those with special needs to guarantee them easy access to all of the ministry's buildings, clinics and hospitals.
Dr. Al–Sayer said that a higher committee has been formed to oversee the needs of this important segment of society, which he said requires the support of civil societies.

He emphasized that the health ministry would spare no effort in helping those with special needs, adding that the newly–formed committee would be looking into the rehabilitation of the ministry's buildings such that their entrances, halls and elevators were accessible for disabled people.

The minister added that disabled parking spaces at clinics were being blocked so that no able–bodied drivers would be allowed to use them, noting that the government's interest in this segment of the society is constantly increasing.

The National Assembly held a session on disability–related issues on Tuesday, as part of the Fifth National Day for Solidarity with disabled people. Around 28,000 people are currently registered in Kuwait as suffering some form of disability. – KUNA
