ISLAMABAD, Sep 8: National Assembly (NA) Standing Committee on Social Welfare and Special Education discussed the facilities being given to disabled people through 'Disability Concession Card' here on Tuesday.The committee meeting was chaired by Rubina Saadat Qaimkhani. The ' Disability Concession Card Bill 2009' is aimed at providing maximum relief to disabled people making them respectable citizens of the country. The card holder will initially be provided 50 percent concession in the rail and air fare while they will be entitled to other facilities which are being planned by the ministry of social welfare and special education.Minister for Social Welfare and Special Education, Samina Khalid Ghurki briefed the committee members that disabled people will get health insurance and micro credit facilities under the Disability Concession Card After getting the special CNIC, she informed that the disabled would be entitled of getting other facilities. President Asif Ali Zardari in August had inaugurated issuance of disability cards, while special instructions have been given to NADRA to facilitate disabled on priority basis. The committee recommended to fix quota of disabled in regular educational institutes and employment to make them self–reliant and useful citizen of the society. The committee was also briefed on the working of National Commission for Child Welfare and Development. National Child Protection Policy formed after the thorough consultation with provincial governments, has been sent to the cabinet for approval. The establishment of welfare centres at provincial level was also discussed in the meeting. The committee also decided to call upon provincial ministers to discuss the welfare activities being carried out at provincial level. The committee also discussed the working of National Council for Rehabilitation of Disabled Persons. The meeting was attended by Maulvi Asmatullah, Perveen Masood Bhatti, Lal Chand, Shehnaz Salim, Khurshid Begum, Imrana Saeed Jamil, Muhammad Junaid Anwar, Azeem Daultana, Shamshad Sattar Bachani and officials of the ministry of social welfare and special education.
